this past weekend i went home to ottawa since it was diwali & new year's (indian), plus dad was leaving for india that sunday. after regular new year's visit to the temple, mum, my brother, and i headed to the ottawa-montreal game to introduce my sister-in-law (in gujarati, i call her bhabhi) to canada's favourite pastime! excellent game, as expected. we seemed to have gotten tickets in the habs section.. especially the ones who paint themselves blue and red! bhabhi was quite amused by all the taunting going on in the stands, kind of like a soccer game. especially since the habs fans were all singing "ole, ole, ole oleeee". after the game, we headed to a diwali party where i could meet all the ottawa family friends. ah.. all i can say is things don't change :) definitely a fun night.
sunday we had a family breakfast at cora's. so yummy as always! my parents were definitely impressed and agreed that it was very much worth waiting in line for. off to the airport we went to drop dad off. we hung out a bit at the bookstore trying to find dad something to read on the plane. i still think my suggestion was the best: the undomestic goddess. :)
after the airport we headed to the train station so i could catch my train. when i boarded the train, i ran into a family friend of sorts. we started talking and didn't even realise the train was moving! this was a problem.. because i didn't have a seat. so i walked to the back of the car.. nothing. back to the front i go to try the other car. i KNEW at this point no "outlet" seat would be available. *sigh* as i walk towards the front of the next car i get a little more worried because there are still no seats available.. until i get to the front. one seat left! and it happens to be an outlet seat (four seats facing each other) - *excitement* it was totally one of those "spotlight on the seat while a choir in the background sings, 'aaaaaahhhhh'" moment. the three other people and i get talking and it turns out that the guy sitting beside me went to the same high school and used to hang out with my brother. :| very weird indeed. he's someone i don't really remember since he was apparently only there for a year. anyway, he thankfully made the train ride all the more entertaining. we compared pictures of his ex to his current girlfriend, which amused me to no end! and then ended up watching japanese shows - we were probably the LOUDEST people on the train. the lady across from us kept giving us looks.. ah well. if she seriously had a problem then she could have just asked us to be quiet.
i told mum about the two people i met on the train. she replies with, "why can't you find a nice gujarati boy on the train..?" .. *slaps forehead*
