the reena tina great cupcake experiment!

today tina and i decided that we're going to make cupcakes.. experimental cupcakes. we made five batches of different kinds all with the same base recipe - 60 in total! we're taking some of them to toronto, otherwise we wouldn't have made so many :S the five types of cupcakes we made were: plain, cardamom, cardamom & blackberries, chocolate chips, and truffle surprise. truffle surprise? the truffle is regular chocolate, but as you're eating it you taste cinnamon then BAM! you're hit with a chili flavour. it's actually not that bad! we'll see what the rest of the familia thinks over the weekend.

FINALLY!

i'm done! *jumps up for joy* it's been a crazy five years of ups and downs, but it makes it all the more satisfying that i've finally finished.

today tina and i went down to smith falls to the hershey chocolate factory! my dad took the day off, so he joined us on our chocolatey adventure. on the way there, my dad commented on how boring the drive was and that he should have made me drive. we got there and as soon as we got out of the car all you could smell was chocolate! although, the chocolate smell really wasn't the ultimate smell of heaven. the self-guided tour was not bad and we raided the chocolate shoppe at the end! i wish i could have taken pictures, but i'm not surprised they wouldn't allow it.

so i drove home because my dad wanted to go to sleep in the back. he told me that either i could go straight and follow the way we came OR turn left onto highway 15 and follow through richmond. i decided that we should go onto 15 for a change of scenery. my dad fell asleep in the back, which made for a nice QUIET ride! as we came up to a traffic light, the sign said to turn right for richmond. i woke up my dad asking what i should do - go straight or turn right? he said to just go straight since we didn't need to go through richmond. so we're driving, and driving, and driving some more.. then my dad asked where we were going. :| he then remembered that 15 took us to carleton place, which is about 45 minutes from home. considering smith falls is 45 minutes from home, this was not a good thing. we were supposed to take that right to drive through richmond. so we got to carleton place, took highway 7 to highway 417 to get back home. *sigh* at least tina got the scenic tour of the boonies of ottawa. that's a first for her.

hidden zippers are not fun

yesterday was supposed to be a reena shopping day despite having an exam today. anyway, it turned out to be a shopping day for my cousin instead! we got to rideau centre and found out my gift certificates didn't work there, so i have to go to toronto to spend $300 - i think i can do that. anyway, i went into a store and tried on a shirt. i didn't realise there was a zipper up the side; it was pretty well hidden. so the zipper came apart after i put the shirt on and i couldn't get it to go up and down.. i think i broke the zipper. it was a typical reena moment.

i'm now unemployed

so my last day at work was yesterday. it's rather exciting despite the fact i'm no longer earning an income. three years at the same job was getting far too routine than i wanted. my job hunt continues! we'll see how my interview goes next monday. the company have started issuing sales quotas, and for those offices that meet or beat their sales quota for the month receives a $150 gift certificate. for the first quarter, our office beat it for two of the three months, so i have $300 worth of gift certificates to use at any cadillac fairview mall great way to end my last day! :)

my cousin's on the train right now, should be here in an hour or so. she bought a ticket with a student discount online. there's a slight problem though.. she doesn't have an isic card. she DOES have a national student card issued to students in england, so let's hope she doesn't get kicked off the train :)

it's far too late..

i just went on a gas station mission because the price was at 92.9. on my way there, a québec driver sped passed me, cut me off for no reason, i started to speed past him when he almost drove into me, i sped past him, he swerved behind me and started flashing his high beams like a madman. ... i sped away, then slowed down because i was turning left at the upcoming traffic light. i stopped behind two cars in the turning lane. the crazy québec driver stops right beside me (no one in front of him, so two cars' length of empty space in front of him). he rolls down his window and says to me, "you cunt", looks forward and sees it's a green light so he speeds away. what the fuck? who the fuck does he think HE is calling ME a CUNT? for no reason! i got to the gas station, filled up my tank, pulled out and did a u-turn. at that point i understood what the crazy québec driver was talking about..

my trunk light lit up.

yay! i think.. maybe

this morning i got a call at home from a staffing agency saying they saw my resume online and have an opportunity available for me. *groan* i thought it would be one of those calls again. actually this job opportunity sounded a little interesting. it's for a bio-tech firm in mississauga - they're looking for a sales analyst. there's one little problem though.. they're looking for someone who is bilingual. bah. i haven't spoken french in about five years. and my attempts to write in french on a regular basis over the past year always was a bust. the person on the phone asked if i had a moment to speak with their bilingual tester. fortunately i didn't since i was heading out! that basically gives me a week to brush up on my french.. FUCK! or should i say ZUT!

can i be any more forgetful?

what's the most important thing you need to bring to an exam? i forgot to take a pen with me this morning.. luckily the on-campus convenience store was open when i got there.

this morning's exam was business ethics. at the top of the exam page was written "maximum three sides of a page per answer." ONE MORE EXAM TO GO! this is very exciting news.

after my exam i went shopping for gifts for my boss and two co-workers since my last day is this coming sunday. one of my co-workers is very hard to shop for. i've never seen him wear a tie, he doesn't have time to read books, he and his wife are in the middle of trying to sell their house (where they had to put some of their stuff in storage so that they're place doesn't look cluttered). so what do i get him? i thought maybe a t-shirt with something amusing on it. but the only really amusing things that i could find were inappropriate to even wear around the house (he has three kids under the age of five..). BAH.

the business ethics rap

your resident valley girl

a young couple came in with a few quick questions. after answering them, the wife told me i had the coolest accent. uh.. really?

lady: where are you from? your accent is so awesome. where were you born?
me: toronto..
lady: ah, no wonder! we're from montreal so that explains your accent.
me: but i grew up in ottawa.. i've lived here since i was three.
lady: oh.. but your accent.. it's so proper.
me: .. my parents have a mixed accent. maybe it's partly due to them. they've been all over the place. africa, india, england, canada.
lady: so are you mixed? because that would be pretty cool! and would explain your accent.
me: nope.. i'm east indian.
lady: oh.. [leaves the office]

wow.. in a matter of five minutes i went from being extremely interesting to not very exciting. i've never met anyone so fascinated with my accent, including while travelling..

is it weird that..

i'm eating mango rum ice cream while watching legally blonde 2 instead of studying for my strategic management exam? yeah, i thought so.

i hate studying

i still have three exams left to write, then i'm DONE! one of my cousins is down from england for a few weeks. she's spending her last week here in ottawa to relax and do nothing. she arrived thursday night and already her uncles and aunts (on her mum's side) have started taking her everywhere and anywhere. they left at 8am yesterday to go to the casino.. :S

she'll be here next monday night, my last exam is on tuesday night - so tuesday she'll have a day of doing absolutely nothing. sit her arse in front of the stupid box basically. i haven't figured out what we could do on wednesday, thursday, and friday. there's no way my parents would let me drive to montreal.. the way my driving is i'm sure i'd get caught by a quebec police officer. the train to get to montreal is too expensive ($100 - i have no job after the 23rd!) and the bus is the same price as the train.

WAIT! i have never ever been to the chocolate factory. considering how close it is (less than 45 minutes away) i have never had the opportunity to go. i can't believe my parents never took me.. although.. i'm not a fan of hershey's chocolate, but hey.. it's chocolate. that takes care of one afternoon.

un calendrier?

google calendar is now live.. i played around with it for a bit instead of studying. it's pretty fun - combining a calendar with evite.com (except evite invitations are more entertaining..). i wanted to see how the invitations work, so i sent an invitation to my 'family' gmail account and another one to my rogers account. with the wonders of the internet, including speed, i have yet to receive anything on either account. i figured maybe for the gmail account i have to log into the calendar. so i did. nothing. i guess i should wait a few hours and see if anything happens.

UPDATE (5 minutes later): i'm just impatient.. i receive the email! so it does work.

i'm REALLY not good at this!

saturday night was my parents' charity event. we had a bigger turn out this year - over 800 people! our phone was ringing all day saturday with people looking for last minute tickets. it turned out great. the only unfortunate part is that even though we had close to 200 more people attending this year, we may not be beating the amount raised last year. ah well, $30,000 is still not bad for the cancer centre!

anyway, that night a good friend of mine, sonal, decided to take it upon herself to find me a guy - she made it her mission for the night. there was an obvious mix up because the music was loud.. i thought i challenged her to get a really stupid picture of me (because i have a LOT of silly pictures of her); she thought i challenged her to find me a guy. anyway, near the end of the night someone came up to me.

guy: are you heren's sister?
me: yes..
guy: sonal asked me to come and talk to you.

uhh.. i was a little shocked not really knowing what to say. i really didn't know what to do with him. since it was nearing midnight, i was packing up mine and my cousin's laptops so that i could help pack other stuff up, so my mind was elsewhere. as soon as he said sonal, i looked over towards the other end of the banquet hall and could see her almost dying of laughter. we made a bit of small talk and then he let me get back to what i was doing. i think i came across as a complete retard cause i certainly felt like one. HOLY BATMAN - i think it was a mix of lack of sleep and far too much on my mind. it was a total "what the fuck" moment for me. i told sonal i was going to get her back - somehow (though she knows that's usually an empty threat).

i'm off to see the wizard

for my society, technology, and change class on monday, i was given back my essay. 25/30 - not bad for a couple of hours of last minute typing :) the t.a. left comments at the end of my paper, the last line being "have courage". since when did i become the cowardly lion?

i thought it would be different

today was the last day of classes for my undergrad career!! SO FREAKIN' EXCITING! except, i thought i'd have a different feeling leaving my last class.. instead, it seemed like any other day. weird. maybe i'll feel ecstatic after my last exam.

latrina: it is the right thing to do. and after she murders you, you'll go straight to heaven.

natella: i'm a hindu.

latrina: disneyland?

should i apply?

there's one job post that caught my eye because it has both mundane and interesting duties. for what they're looking for, skills wise, i'm probably 90% qualified. so what? yeah, there's one thing that's holding me back: "The successful candidate will have fully embraced the beliefs and lifestyle of an evangelical Christian, and will support Tyndale's Statement of Faith." i can see why they would want a christian employee since they're a very christian school with very christian beliefs, so they're probably afraid of a non-christian making rukus in the great halls of the seminary. maybe i'll apply.. what's the worse that could happen? they'll say no? [sarcasm]*shiver*[smarcasm]

i can only hope

my dad told me that if i sold my laptop for $500 he'd buy me a brand spanking new one. i'd be all for it if my laptop were even worth $500.. it's about 5 years old, pentium 3 (750), 20 gb, 512mb sdram, 8x dvd. *sigh* i need to find a job so i can buy a laptop and a condo.

useless fact

depending on what kind of date/time system you use, on wednesday at 3 seconds after 1:02am it will be..

01:02:03 04/05/06

but i prefer to wait until may because day-month-year makes more sense to me.

where did all my money go?

i'm getting my stuff together so that i can do my taxes this week. you know i never realised how much i spent on tuition last year.. over $7,300! holy batman. i think i spent over $1,500 on books as well. no wonder i have no money to invest in rrsp's..
