i left my heart in san francisco

actually, i left my flippin' doughnuts there..

i'm in san jose right now - a short stopover on my way to vegas for a tradeshow. my flight was on saturday, which i missed.. oops. i arrived at the counter 10 minutes after check-in closed for my flight, so my entire trip got delayed by two hours (plus an extra hour on top of that since i there was an hour delay in chicago). no biggie since i hadn't had anything planned for when i arrived anyway. my luggage arrived, which is all i really care about.

yesterday (sunday) i went down to san francisco with three friends - dharmesh, tina, and samir. we went to twin peaks for a great view of the city. then drove up and down the hills of the city. go to experience crooked street, a street car ride (woo!!), and some fantastic hot chocolate, ice cream, and mini doughnuts.

i would have enjoyed those doughnuts more if birds didn't attack me (it might have been a single bird). while eating a doughnut, a bird flew right up to my face and then flew away. then while eating another doughnut, a bird clipped the back of my head.. and on the third doughnut, the bird flew right in between dharmesh and i and headed straight for MY doughnut that was in my hand which was heading for my mouth.. oh dear. as soon as that happened, the space around me cleared in two seconds flat. i swear i haven't seen people run so fast :P according to dharmesh, a woman videotaped the last attack. i wish he had told me so i could ask her to send me a copy :P

while the four of us were walking down one of the piers or somewhere, a pigeon flew straight for my head, which i had to duck for. and then while in the ice cream shop, a bird flew right into the window while i was paying for my ice cream. WHY ME?!

on one of the sidewalks, a homeless man had several branches set up as a bush. he would hide behind it, and someone walks up he would part the branches and yell BOO! hahahaha, we saw him from behind scaring a family :) while we were walking back towards the fake bush, samir got distracted by the birds in the water, so he jumped when the homeless man yelled BOO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :) too funny!

a very entertaining day :)

ain't no betsy ross

i bought a new phone! nokia n95 8gb :) i think i already said that before.. it's been two weeks and i'm still psyched over it. my biggest complaint is nokia's compatibility with macs.. it's almost non-existant! just for a flippin' software update, i need to use a pc because it resets and wipes out the phone memory (not the mass memory) every single time, so updating over wifi would never be an option (and they don't have the application for macs). and the map uploader is pc only.. grr. that was the other thing, the phone has gps! i was a little disappointed that turn-by-turn navigation was a service you had to pay for through nokia, until i got some sense and remembered how in order to get up-to-date maps for gps systems, you have to pay for it. so either buy your maps and get free turn-by-turn navigation.. or get free maps and pay for turn-by-turn navigation. since that would only really be useful in europe, i'd rather the latter.

anyway, i'm in an experimental mood. i decided i'm going to make a cover for my phone. people asked, "why don't you just buy one?!" cause that's not entertaining, of course. where's YOUR head?

so i've so far made two different covers:

attempt #1

this was an interesting one.. it's the shape i like - it definitely needs cardboard in it to make it stiff and sturdy. as it is right now, it looks like a maxi pad.. (aka. sanitary napkin). haha, oh dear.

attempt #2

this one doesn't remind me of anything i'd find in the bathroom. actually, this one's not bad considering:
- i don't own a sewing machine
- i don't sew

anyway, i really like the fabric i chose for this - the blue fabric is SO soft. i think i may try a couple of more phone cover experiments with these two fabrics. who knows, maybe i might actually make something truly useable!

freshly squeezed

you know your orange juice is freshly squeezed when there's a label for oranges floating in your glass.. (perhaps i should have made sure i had it in focus before taking the picture.. oops!)
