the cashier thinks i'm CRAZY..

i have this big green monstrous of a bag that i keep in my car for grocery shopping. i was given it a month ago and i always forget to bring it into the store with me instead of taking plastic bags because i have this huge pile sitting in my cupboard. so to satisfy the tree hugger in me i usually ask for paper bags. today at a&p i forgot to bring in my green bag as usual, so i asked the cashier for paper bags..

cashier: pardon me?
me: paper bags please.
cashier: paper.. bags..?
me: yes, please.
cashier: you mean paper shopping bags..?
(this girl clearly doesn't understand the concept of a paper bag.)
me: yup. they're brown, look like paper lunch bags, but bigger.
cashier: (looking even more confused) umm..

the girl starts to look around nervously as if she's faced with a person in a ski-mask trying to rob her.. finally she tells me she they don't have any and they never had any for as long as she's worked there. i didn't have the heart to ask how long that was. it's not that i didn't believe they don't have paper bags, but.. the confusion on the girl's face was a little worrisome!
