how i organized a reception, and lived to tell about it
week of craziness and i still don't have all the pictures to account
for it. it's been kind of a blur.. but at least i have pictures to
remember the stupidity :) as soon as i get as many pictures as
possible, i'll certainly post up an album. i'm at 900+ pictures so
far..
saturday night went well considering i had NOTHING prepared.
seriously. i had no music for when i introduced my brother and
sister-in-law. i had no itinerary. basically i had no clue. anyway,
luckily a family friend went out and bought the two cds i needed an
hour before the reception, i wrote up the itinerary a half hour prior
to start, and we basically just made up the rest right on the spot.
our theme was a world-wide tour on mistry airlines, but because i had
nothing prepared, the theme fizzled by the end of the night. at least
people laughed at my jokes, heh - i've never been able to be
completely serious when given a mic. my cousin alan, my co-pilot for
the evening, was incredibly hyper that night.. he says it's because he
was only drinking cc, but i still don't believe that!
the glow-in-the-dark bracelets were a hit! tons of people were
running up to get some. my mum's dad even came up to me for some!
later on i found out that he went up to my cousin rakesh, who was
helping me hand them out, for more! hehehe, my grandfather's one hip
80-something! :) i bought 500 glow bracelets, and they all were
taken in a matter of 10-15 minutes. if i ever organize another
reception, i'm certainly going to do that all over again!
at the end of the night i came to the conclusion that i was right -
wedding receptions are a pain that are not worth having. even though
i tried to make it as informal as possible, it still gave me a
headache! i'd rather have a cocktail party like setting which
requires no speeches, no table settings, and no real organization
(other than food, liquor, and glow funness).
