cooking with reena: part 1
cooking has always been somewhat of an interesting experiment for me. i love food, with a passion. cooking however.. we don't always get along.
tonight i cooked indian food on my own for the first time in a long while. over the weekend i bought different kinds of indian veggies to last me the week (cost me all of $3!), one of which is called guwar (apparently also known as cluster beans). like all indian mothers insist, multi-tasking while cooking is essential. now i can multi-task like nobody's business at work, juggling many different projects at once.. but in the kitchen i'm hopeless :S
so while i was cooking the guwar with potatoes, i was also making a few rotlis for myself. i'm balancing everything fairly decently when the doorbell rings. what to do, what to do. answer the door or stay with the food? door .. food? i decided to answer the door. no, i did not leave the stove on - my high intelligence reminded myself to turn off all the elements before answering the door to avoid disaster.
on my way back to the kitchen, i came to realise my obvious stupidity. even though i turned off all the elements, i failed to move the items off the ones that were set to high. oops. so one of my rotlis burnt. double oops.
oh well, at least i know the fire alarm works!
